Food
The Sybilline Mountains area has many pleasant surprises in store for lovers of good food and fine wines.
The main specialities typical of this area are: the lentils of Castelluccio, considered the best in the world, spelt, mushrooms, truffles, meat, sausages, above all ciauscolo, a soft salame for spreading on toast, dairy products ranging from ricotta to pecorino, very fresh and tasty thanks to the area's numerous sheep-farms, and honey of exceptional quality thanks to the unspoilt environment and abundant wild flora.
The wines are those typical of the Marches: Verdicchio di Matelica, Rosso Piceno, Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, Rosso Conero, Offida.

This area also produces the famous Varnelli mistrà, a special dry anisette: a dash of it in coffee is a peerless pick-me-up. |
